ELIZABETHTOWN, PA - RIT junior Mike Glynn III won the 149 lb. bracket to help the Tigers to a third-place finish at the Ken Ober Memorial Tournament, Saturday.
Glynn defeated Aaron Briscoe with technical fall at 3:59 in his opening match. He defeated Garrett Hughes with fall at 1:44 before a 7-4 decision over Nicholas Paolucci. Glynn beat Shane Strausser, 2-0 in the semifinal and took down Washington & Jefferson's Taylor Smith 7-4 in the championship bout.
Sophomore Isaiah Shafer placed second at 141 lb. He beat Bryan Diaz with a 13-4 major decision after a first-round bye and took down Nathaniel Nagel with a 16-4 major decision in his second match. He defeated Scott Reagan 19-9 (MD) in the semifinal before falling to Xavier Pena in the title bout.
Junior Liam Strouse beat Alan DeVries with a technical fall at 4:35 in his opening match at 165 lb. He beat Matteo Pinnero, 2-0 in his second match and took down Joshua Ducharme with a technical fall at 4:47. Strouse was an 11-10 winner in the semifinal before losing to Brian Schneider in the final.
Sophomore Zach Swyers placed second at 184 lb. defeating Ty Saetum with a fall at 2:36 in his first match. He advanced to the semifinals after an injury and took down Owen Koch, 4-1 in the semifinal. Swyers lost to Will Davis, 4-1 in the championship.
After losing his first match, first year Josh Lanka came back to take third place at 285 lb. He defeated Keishon Martin, 7-1 and Jacob Carter with a fall at 2:01. Lanka defeated Marco Malerba with a fall at 2:41 and took down Kurt Driscoll, 9-6 in the third-place match.
Junior Josh Post (141 lb.), first year Jared Lee (149 lb.) and first year Michael Drazek (165 lb.) each placed fourth, while first year Ryan Fischer placed fifth at 285 lb.
RIT returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 10) in the Tiger Duals at 11:00 a.m.
