Local wrestling coaches happy to see New York create state team tourney
October 26, 2016

TROY — High school wrestling is unique because it has elements of an individual sport and is also very much a team sport.

Historically in New York, wrestling has only had one state championship — an individual tournament where 30 wrestlers are crowned champions across two divisions.

That will all change next season as the New York State Public High School Athletic Association recently announced it will add a two-division, dual meet state championship beginning in 2018.
