Six Brockport Wrestlers Take Top Spots In Golden Eagle Open

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Brockport wrestling opened competition on Saturday morning in the Golden Eagle Open which featured wrestlers from Alfred State, Cornell, Buffalo, and Niagara Community College. There was no adjustment period for the team, as Brockport wrestlers took first place in six of the ten weight classes on the day.

Dillon Stowell was the best finisher for Brockport at this weight class, defeating Brandon Gaylord from Alfred State by injury before falling in a close decision against Buffalo's Derek Spann, 16-10, giving him a second place finish. Jon Lauricella finished third, pinning his opponent in 2:34 in the third place bout.

Kevin Marcano earned the first win of the day for Brockport, going 3-0 on the day including a Round 3 decision victory over teammate Nick Nieves. Marcano's toughest competition was Brandon Gould of Buffalo, who took him the distance before Marcano ultimately came out with a 6-5 decision win.

Donny McCoy and Sean O'Hagan were the top finishers for Brockport at 141, each earning two victories to put themselves in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Brockport dominated the 149-lb weight classes, with wrestlers finishing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Aaron Wilkinson won three matches, all by fall to give him a third place finish. Zack Bendick was the only wrestler that was able to shut him down on the day, pinning Wilkinson before falling to fellow teammate Sean Peacock, who took first in the weight class after winning both of his matches by technical fall.

Corey Farrell took home the top spot in the 157 lb. weight class, first earning a spot in the finals with an 18-0 technical fall win before defeating Buffalo's Kobe Harrehy in a tight 7-5 decision. Jackson Bell took home third, pinning his first opponent in 0:17 before falling to Farrell and then coming back to win the third place bout with a 6-2 decision.

Casey Provost was the top finisher for Brockport at 165, taking fifth after defeating NCC's Kaydon Newton.

Richard Mills battled his way to the top spot at 174, pinning Richard Harper from NCC in 2:49 in his first match of the day. In the first place bout against Alfred State's Konnor Kremer, Mills went the distance before pulling ahead 7-6 late to take first place.

Triston Engle dominated the 197 lb weight class, winning both of his matches by fall, the first in just :36 seconds and the second in 1:25.

Jacob Morris was just as dominant in the heavyweight division, pinning his first two opponents in 2:07 and :35 respectively, before taking the final match against NCC's Jed Middleton due to injury.

Brockport wrestling, which is looking for its 54th consecutive winning season, will have its first dual match of the season on Wednesday, Nov. 9 when they travel to Alfred for a dual beginning at 7 p.m.
