Wrestlers put rivalry on hold in state tourney
February 24, 2017

Shvunte Searcy and Cole Rifanburg, seniors from Marathon and Norwich, respectively, have wrestled each other three times this season.

All three have been nail-biters as they split a pair of 3-2 decisions and Rifanburg earned a victory in the 152-pound Windsor Christmas Tournament final when Searcy had to pull out in the second period after rolling an ankle.

One might think the two are rivals, but during the opening day of the New York State High School Wrestling Tournament at the Times Union Center in Albany, it wasn't so. Both wrestlers advanced to the semifinals 152-pound weight class.
