Purple reigned in the final day of the New York state wrestling championships in Albany with eight Section V athletes claiming state titles — several for the third time in their careers, including Frankie GIssendanner, Lou DePrez and Dane Heberlein.

Gissendanner, who wore a red Penfield singlet during the Division I 145-pound final and not the section's purple singlet, sank to his knees after the the Penfield junior, who won a national cadet freestyle title last summer, defeated Shenendehowa sophomore Kiernan Shannon of Section II, 7-2, at the Times Union Center,
