Oneonta finishes 5th at Northeast Regionals; Bethel and Sisco qualify for NCAA Championships

The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team placed 5th out of 19 teams with a team score of 72.5 points at the NCAA Northeast Regionals at Roger Williams. The Red Dragons had two grapplers finish in the top three, and four wrestlers named to the All-Region team.

Leading the way for the Red Dragons was junior James Bethel (Saugerties/Saugerties) who took the top title, winning the championship at 285 lbs. Bethel entered the regional as the top seed with a 39-2 record. Bethel opened competition yesterday with a pin against Lucien Cascino of Trinity. His final three wins were all by decision including a 6-1 win against Jake O'Brien of Ithaca. Bethel's victory qualified him for the NCAA Division III Championships and a slot on the All-Region team.
