Alfred State's Van Valen Finishes 2nd at NCWA Nationals

Alfred State junior George Van Valen (Ithaca) capped a stellar season with a 2nd place finish in the 184 lb. weight class at the NCWA National Championships. Van Valen helped the Pioneers to a 13th place overall finish.

Van Valen, seeded #2, allowed just one point in winning four matches and advancing to Saturday afternoon's National Championship match. In the finals he was matched up with #1 seed Cody Chaney from Emmanuel. In a tight battle, Chaney claimed the title with a 4-0 victory.

Van Valen finsihes the season with a 39-7 overall record. His 2nd place finish is the best of any Alfred State wrestler at the NCWA Championships. This followed a sophomore season in which he finished 4th in the 184 lb. weight class.

The seven members of the Alfred State team that competed finished 13th overall with 60 points. 99 teams had wrestlers compete in the competition held in Allen, TX.
