Amherst's wrestling team had a great showing at Saturday's Section VI Class A Tournament, qualifying 11 wrestlers for this coming Saturday's Section VI Division I State Qualifier at North Tonawanda.

The Tigers also placed third overall with 154.5 points.

"It is just sinking in for me how far this group of wrestlers has come," Amherst coach Dennis Bauer said. "Qualifying 11 of 15 wrestlers is an indication of how much these guys love the sport and believe in finishing well. It is relatively easy to start a challenge. It requires a great deal more persistence to finish hard despite adversity. This group gives a very steady effort in practices and matches. Placing third was about where I thought we could finish if we wrestled well."
