Pioneers Close Out Regular Season

The Alfred State wrestling team wrapped up the regular season with their only home meet of the year. The Pioneers picked up three victories in a 37-12 defeat at the hands of Lycoming. The Pioneers finish the dual meet season with a 7-8 record while the Warriors improve to 12-5.

Lycoming jumped out to a 20-0 lead with three victories on the mat and a forfeit victory at 141. The Pioneers got on the board when Mike Galton (Warsaw) won a 2-1 decision in overtime over Hadyn Swartwood at 157 lbs. Devin Horton (Apalachin/Owego Free) followed that up with a 8-2 victory over Shane Rose. After a loss at 174 lbs, George Van Valen (Ithaca) continued his impressive campaign with a pin of Bradley Miccio. The Warriors took the final two matches to close out the victory.

Prior to the match, Van Valen, Patrick Lehman (Marathon), Ryan Thierman (Portville), and Satchel Holder (Babylon) were honored for their careers at Alfred State.
The Pioneers will now shift their focus to the NCWA Northeast Championships to be held at the University of New Hampshire on February 24th.
