Southwestern sophomore Mika Walters attended the inaugural Public School Athletic League New York Girls Folkstyle State Invitational championships held in the Bronx this past Saturday. With a single-elimination bracket of 20 other girls varsity wrestlers from all over New York state, Walters was able to win four matches, each with a pin in the first period, to win the first-ever PSAL championship at 139 pounds. Currently there are six states that sanction girls wrestling. Georgia and Oregon will join the movement for the 2018-19 season.
