UB's Akins and Lantry Named to NWCA Division I All-Academic Team

BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo wrestlers Kyle Akins and Bryan Lantry were named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division I All-Academic Team on Thursday. Awarded annually, the NWCA All-Academic Team was comprised of 155 student-athletes this year.

Akins was named to the team for the second straight year. The redshirt-junior is a social science interdisciplinary major with a 3.37 grade point average. He went 22-10 on the season, including 10-4 in duals and 5-1 in MAC duals. Akins had 10 takedowns and a team-best five reversals in duals on the season. He is also a two-time Academic All-MAC selection.

Lantry is a management major with a 3.21 GPA. The redshirt-junior went 17-7 overall, 10-3 in duals and 4-1 in MAC duals. He finished second at the MAC Championships in the 133 lb. bracket to become just the third UB wrestler to be a three-time national qualifier. Lantry was also a 2018 Academic All-MAC selection.

Awarded annually, the NWCA All-Academic team is comprised of 155 student-athletes. Five Division I champions made the team, while seven additional runners-up were included. In all, 42 All-Americans were All-Academic selections. Of the 155 individuals, 123 were at minimum NCAA Division I qualifiers, up from 115 a year ago.
