By TOM ROOF, The Times Herald, February 01, 2002

SALAMANCA - If the seeding arrangement for Saturday's Salamanca Wrestling Tournament is on the mark, you can expect another Clarion High-Fredonia showdown.

Clarion, last year's champion by nine points over Fredonia, has three No. 1 seeded wrestlers - Bryan Kiskadden (17-3) at 125, Matt Watterson (16-6) at 135, and two-time Pennsylvania state Class AA champion Kyle Cathcart (18-0) at 189.

Cathcart has already signed a national letter of intent for Penn State.

Fredonia, meanwhile, ranked second in the New York State small-school poll, got the top seeds at 130, 152, 171 and 275 (see listing below).

Host Salamanca is without a No. 1 seed, but does have four wrestlers seeded among the top four, including three No. 2s - Corey O'Neil (112), Jaymee Minner (135) and Kane Smith (171).

Among the other top seeds are Olean's Steve Pancio at 96 and Josh Anderson at 145; Oswayo Valley's Josh Lundy at 103; and Bradford freshman Kyle Keane (17-1) at 112.

Olean, which placed third a year ago, returns a pair of champions in Pancio and Shea Anzivine, who's seeded third at 112.

Also back to defend their titles are Albion's Mike Sanders, who's now at 119, Fredonia's John Perry (135), Watterson, Panama's Bob Russell (140), and Cathcart.

In all, 14 teams are entered with wrestling scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

The semifinals will be at approximately 2 p.m. with the finals for first, third and fifth getting off a 6:30 p.m. on three mats.
