July 29, 2018

ISTANBUL, Turkey -- Kyle Dake ran through the prestigious Yasar Dogu International in Istanbul, Turkey, earning a pair of falls and earning a technical fall in the 79 kg final on Saturday and Sunday. It was his first tournament representing the United States on the World Team.

Dake earned a first period tech fall in the gold medal match, using three takedowns and a pair of gut wrenches to claim the 11-0 win over 2011 Junior World bronze medalist Ibrahim Yuubov of Azerbaijan. He earlier knocked off Olympic medalist Jabrail Hasanov of Azerbaijan in the opener and picked up a 61-second fall over Ayhan Sucu of Turkey in the semifinal.

Former NCAA champion Nahshon Garrett wrestled at 61kg, falling in the first round and falling short of qualifying for the repechage. Both Dake and Garrett are wrestling after making their first world team this summer.

In team scoring, the United States nipped Iran (150-146), with Turkey and Azerbaijan rounding out the top four.
