Spencerport Captures Monroe County Tournament

WEBSTER SCHROEDER - The heat was on as Monroe County's best competed for the elite Monroe County Championship.

Twelve-year defending champions Spencerport captured its 13th straight championship after gaining 277.5 points. Brockport took second, followed by Rush-Henrietta.

Kyle Borshoff(Pittsford), Gregor Gillespie (Webster Schreoder), Mike Wood (Eastridge), Chris Forte (Pittsford), and Alex Baxter of Spencerport all successfully defended their Monroe County Championship titles and became back to back Monroe County Champions.

Here's a rundown of what went down weight by weight.

96 pounds: Hilton's Mark Ranzenbach defeated Torsten Gillespie of Webster Schreoder in a battle of the lightweights. Each of Razenbach and Gillespie's older brothers who went on to win the tournament watched and encouraged them.

103 pounds: Pittsford's Kyle Borshoff became a two time county champion after beating Erik Piedmonte of Spencerport via technical fall 16-0.

112 pounds: In what some call the match of the night, Spencerport's Dereck Gray upset last year's county champion Jasen Borshoff of Pittsford in a close score of 3-2.

119 pounds: After loosing in the finals last year, Joe Ranzenbach of Hilton wasn't gonna settle for a second place finish as he defeated last year's 112 pound county champion Eric Ziegler of Webster Schreoder 6-2.

125 pounds: Brett Woodward of Spencerport became a two time county champion after pinning Bativa's Rich Lovria in a mere 3 minutes, 34 seconds.

130 pounds: Webster Schreoder's Gregor Gillespie remains undefeated in New York State as he won over Brockport's Eric Schuet via techincal fall, 16 - 0. Gillespie was named Most Outstanding Wrestler for the tournament.

135 pounds: Chris Forte of Pittsford also became a two time county champion after defeating Spencerport's Dan Tomasso 5-1.

140 pounds: Eastridge's Mike Wood edged Larry LaRussa of Rush-Henrietta to a final score of 5-4

145 pounds: Mike Terenzi (Spencerport) continues to show his excellence in Section 5 as he defeated the number one seed, Al Gianforti from Irondequoit, 5-1.

152 pounds: With 25 seconds to go, Brockport's Sean Riley scored a takedown to take the lead over Jason McGuckin (Greece Athena). However, McGuckin escaped and got a takedown as well for a dramatic win.

160 pounds: A stalling call in the final 15 seconds tied the match between Aneal Ram of Brighton and Spencerport's Matt Legas. Ram rode out Legas in double overtime to win 4-4.

171 pounds: Brett Giehl of Greece Athena displayed his speed, strength, and talent as he defeateded Spencerport's Sebastion Baliva 6-2.

189 pounds: Spencerport's Alex Baxter remains undefeated in New York State and also became a two time 189-pound Monroe County Champion as he pinned Greece Olympia's Nate Burns.

215 pounds: Jeff Standish of Rush-Henrietta shows his dominance as he defeated Greece Olympia's Ellis Snow.

275 pounds: Gates Chili's Phil Byers remains undefeated after using numerous takedowns to defeat Tom Rodak (Spencerport) 9-1.
