Eckles takes first at McMullen Open

Niagara County Community College sophomore Freddy Eckles took first place at 141 pounds at this past weekend's annual Ben McMullen Open hosted by Muskegon Community College. Eckles knocked off Olivet College's Andrew Castaneda, 11-7, in the championship tilt. During the tournament, Eckles also won via technical fall and major decision.

Freshman Greg Quinn made his debut in the royal blue and gold a good one, taking second at 125 pounds. Teammate Matt Genau, a sophomore, was fourth in the same weight class. Sophomore C.J. Walz was third at 133, freshman Katrell Jackson took fourth at 149 and classmate Anthony Bell was third at 157.

The Thunderwolves are next in action at 7 p.m. Wednesday when they visit Western New York Athletic Conference rival Mercyhurst North East in dual-meet action.
