Alfred State's Galton Finishes 2nd, Almeter 3rd at Gettysburg

Mike Galton (Warsaw) finished 2nd at 157 and Tristan Almeter (Elma/Iroquois) was 3rd at 184 as the Alfred State wrestling team competed at the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday.

Galton started the day with a 11-3 major decision over John Ritter (Wilkes). In the quartefinal, he won 11-4 over Kelvin Cupay (Gettysburg) and then won a 3-1 decision over Ryan Butcavage (Castleton) to advance to the finals. In the finals he lost a hard fought 3-2 match to Ray Martin (Gettysburg).

Almeter opened the day with a 18-0 tech fall over Austin Sphar (Wilkes) but fell 4-2 in his semifinal match. He was able to bounce back with a pin of Hunter Lowe (Wilkes) in 27 seconds and then claimed 3rd with a medical forfeit victory over Matthew Judge (Wilkes).

Jesse Pitoni (Churchville Chili) was 2-2 with a pin at 125 lbs. while Mitchell Lattuca (Lancaster) was 2-2 in the heavyweight bracket.

The Pioneers finished the competition in 6th place with 29.5 points. The host team took the team title with 114 points followed by Wilkes (107.5), McDaniel (77.5), Penn College (67.5), and Castleton (32.5).

The blue & gold will head to the NYS Championships next Sunday.
