Brockport State Takes Four First Place Finishes out in Ohio

Alliance, OH - The College at Brockport wrestling team competed at the Mount Union Invitational on Saturday out in Ohio. The Golden Eagles recorded four first-place finishes throughout the tournament.

In the 142-weight division, freshman Austin Sergeant won first place in the tournament. He dominated all three matchups, with a technical fall and two pins, on his way to a top spot.

Austin Reed took first place in the 150-weight class at the tournament. Entering as the top seed in his weight division, Reed received a first-round bye. He pinned his first matchup, then won two decisions to secure a top place finish. Teammate Robert Billett took fourth place in the same weight division.

Freshman Justin Jones earned first place in the 198 weight division. He secured a major decision in the first round, before taking two decisions in the semi-final and final matches. Karam Ali placed fifth in the weight class as well.

Richard Knapp took first place in the 285 division for the Green and Gold. He earned two decision victories and two pins on his path to the top spot finish.

Last year's national third place wrestler, Matt Caccamise took third place in the 125-weight class on the day. After a pin in the first round and decision victory in the second, he fell in the semi-finals. Caccamise wrestled back in the third-fourth place bout, earning a technical fall win for third place.

Joe Yanis earned himself fifth place wrestling at 184 pounds. After a pin in the opening round, he dropped to the wrestle backs where he fought to secure fifth place with two decision wins. Teammate Anthony Oca took sixth place in the 286 weight class.

The Golden Eagles will have next week off to prepare for the New York State Collegiate Championships, hosted by Oswego. The tournament is scheduled to begin at 9 am on Sunday, November 24th.
