While Spencerport won its first match at the state dual meet wrestling championships, the Rangers' hopes for a title ended after that.

Shenendehowa defeated the Section V Division I champion 35-30, which dropped Spencerport to a 1-1 record in pool play and off the track to advance into the state semifinals at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse.

"It came down to the very last match," Spencerport coach Dan Glover said. "Our kid got taken down with about six seconds left on the clock.
