Over 1900 fans cheered on as wrestlers in Class A of section 5 wrestling wrestled in the finals this past Saturday night as Hilton High School hosted the 2003 Class A Sectionals.

For the fifth time this season, Webster Schroeder teammates Gregor Gillespie (119 lbs) and Andrew Krieger (130 lbs) won their weights at a tournament as they head into Super Sectionals holding onto their undefeated records.

Josh Fuller (103 lbs), Alex Baxter (189 lbs), and Andy Peters (215 lbs) of Spencerport helped clinch the team title. Spencerport won with 255 points.

Canandaigua's Kyle Ingraham (112 lbs) and Trevor Chinn (135 lbs) helped lead Canandaigua to second place with 174 and a half points.

Here's a weight-class glance at the top wrestlers in the Class A Sectional tournament:

96 lbs - Kyle Borshoff (Pittsford) was just too much for Dan Mandara (Canandaigua) to handle after all the adrenaline had left and it was a matter of who could outlast the other one, as Borshoff claims the class A championship with a 3-1 victory.

103 lbs - In a much anticipated battle between two of the top dogs at 103 pounds, Josh Fuller (Spencerport) defeated Jason Borshoff (Pittsford) 6-2 after scoring a number of takedowns.

112 lbs - Canandaigua's Kyle Ingraham was too much for Eric Zeigler (Webster Schroeder) to handle. Ingraham was the one with his hand raised after winning 6-2. Ingraham also defeated Spencerport's Brian Bourne, a 7th grader who replaced Brett Woodward after not being able to make the tournament, in the semi-finals 9-1st. Bourne finished third.

119 lbs - Webster Schroeder's Gregor Gillespie clearly showed who was the dominant one after he scored a technical fall over Glenn Dowdy (Greece Olympia) in the third period. Gillespie will be a heavy favorite throughout his road to states.

125 lbs - The first two minutes of the 125 lbs final featured a physical battle between two of the best in the region. However, in the end it was Gene Kobilansky (Brighton) defeated Spencerport's Mike Terenzi 11-7. With 9 seconds remaining, Terenzi was up 7-6 and went to hand fight with Kobilansky, who used any ounce of power left in him to and used an inner trip to take Terenzi down and get 2 for the takedown and 3 back points.

130 lbs - At 130 lbs, it was Webster Schroeder's Andrew Kreiger showing off his might as he defeated Spencerport's Mike Brongo 5-1st. A rematch between the two is highly favored for Super Sectionals this weekend.

135 lbs - Trevor Chinn (Canandaigua) continued to show his dominance in section 5 as he defeated Chris Forte (Pittsford) 11-3.

140 lbs - The whole 7 minutes and 30 seconds of the match had the whole crowd into it. J.P. Zengerle (Gates) defeated Kevin Morrice (Canandaigua) in double overtime to become the class A Champ.

145 lbs - In what many are saying was the match of the night, Dan Safranec (Fairport) defeated Tom Cuppernell (Canandaigua), 13-5. Cuppernell finished 3rd at last year's New York State Championships and was a favor to return this year. At one point during the match, the referee told Canandaigua's head coach to "Sit down and shut up!" after a short heated argument.

152 lbs - Andy Swain (Rush Henrietta) continued his fight to become a state representative as he outlasted Kevin Kinnear (Greece Olympia) 11-6.

160 lbs - In a very physical and fast-paced battle that lasted the whole six minutes, McQuaid's Andy Merkel scored a reversal with 20 seconds left to defeat Steve Stulpin (Spencerport) 6-5, who was undefeated going into this match. Both of these amazing wrestler's now each hold one loss to each other, and other than that remain undefeated.

171 lbs - Brockport's Kevin Bush pinned Rich Schimpf (Penfield) in 5:55 in a battle that went back and fourth with some nice takedowns displayed by both wrestlers.

189 lbs - Alex Baxter (Spencerport) outlasted Matt Gsellmeier (Irondequoit), 4-2, in an exciting match at a sometimes slow moving weight class.

215 lbs - Andy Peters (Spencerport) showed who was the better man as he defeated Dave Rogers (Brockport), 3-2.

275 lbs - In an amazing battle of the big boys, Phil Byers (Gates Chili) came out on top as he pinned Adam Kennel (Irondequoit) in 5 minutes, 10 seconds.
