Niagara County Community College had four champions and three runners-up on its way to a 23rd Region III championship this past weekend at SUNY Sullivan. The Thunderwolves finished second to Nassau Community College in the Eastern District I team scoring. Nine NCCC grapplers qualified for next month's National Tournament.

NCCC 174-pound sophomore Jordan Bushey was named the event's Most Outstanding Wrestler after knocking off Jamestown Community College's Dan Torres, who came into the tournament ranked No. 1 in the country. Bushey, who was No. 1 at 184 pounds before moving down a weight class a few weeks back, won via a 6-1 decision.

Joining Bushey atop the podium was freshman Mason Gray (141), sophomore Frankie Gissendaner (149) and freshman Christian Robinson (165). Gray pinned Nassau's Connor Llewelyn at the 2:19 mark, Gissendaner won via pinfall at 2:26 over Wayne LaMont of Nassau and Robinson earned a 3-0 decision over Nassau's Paul Illicete.

Second-place finishers for the Thunderwolves included: sophomore Jacob Bell (125), freshman Josh Thibeault (184) and freshman Jaquan Johnson (285). Freshman Devin Van Lengen (197) was third. Josh McCoy (133) took fifth and earned a wild card to the NJCAA Championships, which will be held March 6-7 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
