Brockport Wrestling Wins Division III Empire Qualifiers at Oswego
Nine Golden Eagles qualify for NCAA's

OSWEGO, NY - Seven SUNY Brockport wrestlers earned automatic bids to the NCAA Division III Championships, while two received two of the eight wild card slots today at the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Championships held at SUNY Oswego. Brockport won the meet with 120 points, while Ithaca was second with 72.50, Cortland third with 60, followed by Oswego (51.50), Oneonta (29.50), and RIT (16.50).

Sophomore Daniel Roberts (Bellport/Bellport) won the championship of the 133 weight class and the automatic NCAA bid for the second straight year. Roberts defeated Oswego's Tenk Agyeman, 9-5. Senior Kris Harrington (Caledonia/Cal-Mum) won the automatic bid and the championship at 141 by defeating Oswego's Mark Mancari by fall at 1:59. Harrington represented Brockport last year at the NCAA's in the 149 weight class.

Senior Rob Power (Ogdensburg/Ogdensburg) was the winner at 157 defeating Ithaca's K.C. Beach 13-8. Senior Don Favro (Averill Park/Averill Park), who received a wild card slot last season, defeated Ithaca's Andrew Locke 4-2 at 174 to earn the automatic bid this season. Senior Tevon Fordyce (Amityville/Copiague) was the 6-4 winner over Jeff Edelstein of Ithaca, while junior Rob Cuffie (Bay Shore/Brentwood) was victorious at 197 defeating Cortland's Ben Locke 5-2 in the finals. The final automatic qualifier was senior Jim Pennise (Marcy/Whitesboro) who defeated Jeremy Calkins of Oswego, 5-4.

Two wild card slots were awarded to Brockport seniors Sal Cruz (Long Beach/Long Beach) who finished second in the 125 weight class afterlosing to Cortland's Jason Peck 9-7 in the finals and Artie Weidler (Patchogue/Patchogue) who finished third in the 165 weight class with a 9-4 decision over Oneonta's Kyle Hauptfleisch.

The NCAA Division III Championships will be hosted by Ohio Northern Friday-Saturday, March 7-8.
