North Advances to NCAA Championship For Second Straight Season

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Third-ranked Brockport captured team honors at the 12th Annual Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Championships hosted by Oswego State with seven individual champions on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Laker Hall.

The Golden Eagles earned 120 points in the tournament with Ithaca College second with 72.5. Cortland was third with 60 with the host Lakers fourth with 51.5. Oneonta was fifth with 29.5 followed by the Rochester Institute of Technology with 16.5.

RIT's Pat North advanced to the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season at 165 pounds. North finished fourth at the National Championship last year earning All-American honors.

Oneonta sophomore Dustin Winn was named Most Outstanding Wrestler winning the 149-pound weight class. The third seed beat Ithaca's Jad Duca 1-0 in the semis and then beat top-seeded and 2001 NCAA Champion Lenny Baker 5-4 in the finals.

All top finishers in each weight class will advance to the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships set for March 7-8 in Ada, Ohio. Ohio Northern University is hosting the tournament. Eight other individualswere awarded a "wild card" slot and those wrestlers are highlighted below with a **.
