Red Dragons Tie for Eighth at NCAA Div. III Championships
Stef Sair Finishes Second at 184 Pounds

DUBUQUE, IOWA - Cortland senior Stef Sair's (Huntington) quest for a second straight individual national title fell one match short as he placed second in the 184-pound weight class at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships at the Five Flags Center.

Sair was one of three Red Dragons to earn All-America honors. He finished his career as a three-time All-American, including his national title at 174 pounds last year and a fourth-place finish at 174 as a sophomore. Sophomore Treavor LeBlanc (Morrisville/Morrisville-Eaton) and junior Phil Archer (Shirley/William Floyd) each finished seventh at 174 and 197 pounds, respectively. Cortland tied for eighth in the final team standings with Hunter College
at 31 points. Augsburg College of Minnesota won the team title with 135.5 points.

Sair, seeded second, won twice on Friday and opened Saturday's schedule with an 8-2 win over third-seeded Romeo Dioumessi of Wartburg in the semifinals. Sair, however, lost 3-2 in the finals to fourth-seeded Terrance Madden of Hunter College. After a scoreless first period, Madden used a second-period escape to take a 1-0 lead.

Sair escaped quickly to start the third period to tie the match at 1-1, but Madden recorded a takedown 10 seconds after Sair's escape to go up 3-1.

Sair was eventually able to escape with 26 seconds left to pull within 3-2, but was unable to record the winning takedown like he did in last year's 174-pound title match. Sair finished the season with a 22-3 record.

After a 2-1 record on Friday, LeBlanc, seeded sixth at 174 pounds, lost to seventh-seeded Andrew Winfield of McDaniel, 8-2, in his first match Saturday. LeBlanc rebounded to post a 5-1 decision over Adam Dorner of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the seventh-place match. LeBlanc concluded the year with a 26-7 record.

Archer, seeded seventh at 197 pounds, split his two matches on Friday. He lost his opener on Saturday to fourthseeded Alec Bonander of Luther, 8-3, but won the seventh-place match against Wally O'Connor of Augsburg, 10-4.

Archer finished the season with a 17-7 record.
