March 10, 2021

VESTAL, NY. - The NCAA released wrestling seeds for the national championship Wednesday evening, as Binghamton continues to prepare for the trip to St. Louis next week.

The Bearcats have four representatives competing, as Lou DePrez, Joe Doyle and Jacob Nolan earned automatic bids and Micah Roes was awarded a wildcard spot after a strong dual season and EIWA Championship. The news of Roes' selection came Tuesday afternoon.

Leading BU is DePrez, who is the No. 3 seed. The undefeated redshirt junior will take on No. 30 Gregg Harvey (Pitt) in the first round. DePrez's side of the 184 pound bracket features No. 2 seeded Trent Hidlay (NC St.), an opponent familiar to DePrez. The two have split their two past matches against one another.

Next, Roes grabs the No. 30 seed, and will wrestle Arizona State's No. 3 seeded Brandon Courtney in the first round. Roes has quality wins over Jonathan Tropea (Rider) and Dylan Ryder (Hofstra) this season.

Doyle will be the 31 seed in St. Louis, and will face No. 2 Mason Parris to kick off his tournament at heavyweight. Doyle returned to the lineup at EIWA Championships and took fourth place, good for an automatic bid. He had a signature victory over John Birchmeier of Navy.

Nolan rounds out the quartet of wrestlers, as he picks up the No. 33 seed at 174 pounds and will take on Michigan State's Drew Hughes (No. 32 seed) in the pigtail round. The sophomore went undefeated during the dual season, and is 6-2 overall.

The Bearcats are coming off a strong dual season, in which the team was ranked as high as No. 20 in TrackWrestling's tournament rankings, beating two nationally ranked teams (No. 25 Rider, No. 22 Army) as a part of a rigorous schedule.

The first round of the national championship is on Thursday, March 18 and begins at 10 a.m.
