Strong Start Not Enough as Jayhawks Fall at Home
March 18, 2021

JAMESTOWN - Despite picking up the first three wins during the dual, the Jamestown Community College wrestling team fell to Region 3 foe Niagara County Community College, 27-17.

The Jayhawks (1-2, 0-1 WNYAC) started out fast in the 125 pound weight class, as Marcus Evans (Randolph, NY/Randolph HS) picked up a 12-7 decision win over Anthony Kuhn, Jr. to put JCC up 3-0. Evans got going early in the match and maintained throughout.

Keeping the momentum going in the 133 pound match, Taige Jones (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove) got a 9-5 decision win over Zachary Ash. The two were evenly matched in the early going but with patience, Jones picked and choosed his spots to maintain control.

Trenton Donahue (DuBois, PA/DuBois Area HS) is continuing his strong start to the season, getting a 16-0 technical fall over Nikalis Voelker in the 141 pound weight class. Donahue took down Voelker within the first 20 seconds of the match. Voelker did give some resistance until Donahue got the final points at the 6:17 mark to put JCC up 11-0.

The Thunderwolves won the next three matches to put the overall team score at 11-11.

Ross Abram (Eden, NY/Eden Central) got JCC back on track, picking up the fall over Jacob Mancuso, needing 2:09 to do so. With the fall, the Jayhawks were up 17-11 with three matches to go.

NCCC got back on top and maintained their lead, picking up two technical falls and a fall in the final three matches.

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Saturday as they take on Lackawanna College at 2:30 p.m. and Garrett College at 4:30 p.m.
