Edinboro announces incoming 2021-2022 recruiting class

EDINBORO, PA - Edinboro Wrestling has announced the incoming class for 2021-2022, adding to a squad that finished fifth at MAC Championships this season. For head coach Matt Hill, this marks recruiting class number four in his Fighting Scot coaching career.

"This is a big class with a lot of potential with kids from all around the country from California to the New England Area. We are looking to build more depth in our wrestling room with this group and hopefully have a new face compete to step into the lineup right away. Coach James and I are very excited to start working with these young men this coming summer and can't wait to see them develop over the next few seasons. It will take time and a lot of hard work but this incoming class will have a huge impact on the future of the Edinboro Fighting Scots' success."

Lane Aikey

The former Bellefonte Red Raider compiled a high school record of 71-25. Hailing from Bellfonte, PA, Aikey is projected to wrestle at 125 pounds at Edinboro. In the 2018-2019 season, Aikey was 33-10 and finished second in his district and first in the region. The 2019-2020 season saw him go 23-5, take district and regional gold and place seventh at the state tournament. Aikey went 8-2 his senior year, again finishing first in the district and region.

Joey Arnold

The former Warren Dragon improved steadily throughout high school and ended up 27-7 in his junior year. The Pittsfield, Pa. native amassed a 57-42 career record in high school and is projected to wrestle at 165/174 pounds for the Scots.

Clayton Bashor

Hailing from Waterford, CA where he went 114-30 at a high school wrestler at Oakdale High School, Clayton Bashor is a three-time CIF qualifier. He is projected to wrestle at 133 pounds for Edinboro.

Cayden Dotson

Cayden Dotson had a 145-38 record as a high school wrestler at Blue Springs High School in Blue Springs, MO. He enjoyed two fourth-place finished in call 4 during his pre-collegiate career and is projected to wrestle at 125/133 pounds for the Scots. According to NCSA Sports Dotson was first team all-conference and first team all-state in 2021.

Caleb Edwards

Caleb Edwards comes to Edinboro from Rootstown, Ohio where he compiled an astonishing high school record of 180-13. He finished fourth in D3 once and third twice. He is projected to wrestle at 125 pounds at Edinboro.

Ethan Ferro

The Palmyra-Macedon High School product recently won his third straight Section V title with a fall in 46 seconds over his opponent. Ferro had a career record of 223-24 in college, finished second in D2, and is projected to slot in at 165 pounds for the Fighting Scots.

Alex Garee

Alex Garee comes to Edinboro by way of Perrysburg, Ohio where he compiled a 157-21 record for Perrysburg High School. He is projected to wrestle at 157 pounds for Boro, having recently finished third at his state tournament.

Kyle Gora

Kyle Gora led the Alvirne High Broncos as their starting quarterback for several seasons while establishing a dominant record of 145-8 on the mat. He finished second in the New England state tournament and looks to wrestle at 165/174 pounds for Edinboro.

Jack Kilner

Jack Kilner joins the Scots by way of Fresno City College in California. In high school he wrestled for Granada High School in Livermore, CA where he finished fourth at the state tournament. He is expected to wrestle at 197 pounds for the Fighting Scots.

Dylan Kohn

Dylan Kohn is a product of Hagerty High School and The Master's Academy in Oviedo, FL. His career record is 221-29, with a fifth- and a third-place finish at 3A and 1A on his resume. In addition, Kohn added a seventh-place finish at the Fargo Cadet Greco tournament; a sixth-place finish at FloNationals Cadet Greco; fourth-place at the UWW Junior Greco tournament; and he finished as a NHSCA Senior All-American. He's expected to wrestle at 165/174 pounds for Edinboro.

Aaron Mcdaniel

Aaron McDaniel wrestled for Waynesville, High School in Waynesville, MO where he had a 96-16 career record and finished fourth in the state tournament. He is expected to wrestle at 149/157 pounds in college.

Dawson Miller

Dawson Miller went 93-53 as a high school wrestler for East Stroudsburg High School in East Stroudsburg, PA. He is projected to wrestle at 133 pounds for Edinboro.

Amonn Ohl

Amonn Ohl went 121-33 for St. Joseph's Academy in Post Matilda, PA. He logged finishes of sixth and third in the state tournament and is expected to wrestle at 149 pounds collegiately.

Ethan Pappas

Ethan Pappas comes to Edinboro with a 156-25 high school record at Steubenville High School in his hometown of Steubenville, Ohio. He finished sixth in D2 and fourth at D2 in the state tournament, and was an NHSCA Freshman All-American. He is expected to wrestle at 157-165 pounds for the Fighting Scots.

Jordan Schell

Jordan Schell hails from nearby Girard, Pa. where he went 105-33 as a wrestler at Girard High School. Schell also notched a fourth-place finish in the state tournament and will wrestle at 285 upon arriving at Edinboro University.

Giovanni Schifano

Giovanni Schifano finished second at states in N.Y. after compiling a 195-36 career record in high school. Hailing from Eden High School in Eden, N.Y., Schifano is expected to wrestle at 165/174 pounds for the Scots.

Trent Schulthesis

Trent Schulthesis finished eighth, second, fourth and third in trips to the high school state tournament. He was 151-35 in four years for Freedom Area High School in Freedom, Pa. He is expected to wrestle at 165/174 pounds for Boro.

Cameron Soda

Cameron Soda is the brother of fellow 2021 Edinboro commit Zachary Soda. For Burlington High School in Burlington, Mass., Cameron went 130-26 in high school and was a state champion. He is expected wrestle at 125/133 pounds for Edinboro.

Zachary Soda

Zachary Soda is the brother of fellow 2021 Edinboro commit Cameron Soda. For Burlington High School in Burlington, Mass., Zachary went 107-19 in high school, logging a sixth- and first-place finish in the New England state wrestling tournament. Zachary was also a 2021 NHSCA Senior All-American.

Anthony Surace

Anthony Surace compiled a 175-37 record for Webster Schroeder High School in Rochester, N.Y. He finished sixth in the New York state tournament and is expected to wrestle at 125 pounds for the Fighting Scots.
