ITHACA, N.Y. - Kyle Dake '13 and junior Yianni Diakomihalis are set to compete in men's freestyle wrestling at the 2021 Senior World Wrestling Championships at Jordal Amfi in Oslo, Norway, Oct. 2-10. Men's freestyle is the first event in Oslo, with Dake's tournament starting on Saturday, Oct. 2 and Diakomihalis' tournament starting on Sunday, Oct. 3. A bronze medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Dake is attending his third World Championships, while this is the Senior World Championships debut for Diakomihalis.

All of the action in Oslo will be broadcast live on FloWrestling ($). Oslo is six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time zone.

The U.S. representative at 74 kilograms, Dake is the only 74kg Olympic medalist competing at the World Championships. Prior to the Olympics, Dake had won 49 consecutive freestyle matches dating back to 2018. Against the competition, Dake has defeated Azamat Nurykau (5-1), Fazli Eryilmaz (3-1) and Murad Kuramagomedov (10-0) at the 2020 Matteo Pellicone Ranking Series. Dake is a two-time World Champion at 79kg, winning world titles in 2018 and 2019.

A two-time Cadet World Champion, Diakomihalis is making his Senior World Championships debut in Norway. Just 22 years old, Diakomihalis has had plenty of international success, winning 65kg gold at the 2019 Yasar Dogu, the 2019 Poland Open, the 2020 Pan American Championships, the 2021 Henri Deglane Grand Prix and the 2021 Poland Open. Diakomihalis is 20-2 against foreign opponents and aims to be the United States' first 65kg world medalist since Bill Zadick won gold at the 2006 World Championships.

Nick Gwiazdowski, who serves the Cornell wrestling program as a volunteer assistant coach, is also competing this weekend at 125kg. Gwiazdowski is a two-time world bronze medalist, taking third in 2017 and 2018.
