UB's Spann Named to Intermat Preseason All-MAC Team

BUFFALO, NY ? University at Buffalo standout wrestler Derek Spann has been named preseason All-MAC First Team by Intermat. The senior will return to the 133 weight class this year after wrestling at 141 a season ago.

Spann bumped up a weight class last season, wrestling at 141, and went 7-5 on the year. He started the season 4-1 before battling injury issues the rest of the way. He placed sixth at the MAC Championships.

Spann has had the most success of his career at 133, the weight class he is returning to for the upcoming season. He ranks 11th in program history in career dual wins with 39. He is a two-time national qualifier, finishing second at the MAC Championships in 2019 and fourth in 2020.

The UB wrestling season kicks off on November 1 at Wisconsin.
