TCNJ Wrestlers Take First Place at Ithaca Invitational; Henderson Named MOW for Tournament

Ithaca, NY - The College of New Jersey's wrestling team captured a first place showing at the Ithaca College Invitational on Saturday night. TCNJ had three champions and a runner-up in helping the team to the crown, besting a field of 17 teams. Capturing titles for the Lions were TCNJ's junior captain James Henderson (Lakewood, NJ/Southern Regional), and seniors Dan Flounders (Neptune City, NJ/Red Bank Regional) and Ryan Normandin (Medford, NJ/Shawnee). Henderson was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler after capturing the championship at his weight class and knocking off the top ranked wrestler in his weight class in the finals.

Henderson came up with a convincing 12-4 win in the title bout over the top ranked wrestler in Division III at 165 pounds, U.S. Coast Guard Academy's top seeded Chris Fertig. Henderson went 5-0 for the tournament and was tapped as the MOW after knocking off Fertig, who was the national runner-up last year at the NCAA Championships and had been ranked first in the country in Division III.

At 133 pounds, senior Dan Flounders sailed through his bracket with a 4-0 mark. He defeated Delaware Valley College's Andrew Perez, 10-4 in the finals to capture the crown.

At 141 pounds, TCNJ's senior Ryan Normandin earned the No. 2 seed and came away with the title after he defeated top seeded Mike Sommer of Lycoming College in the finals, 8-3. Normandin went 5-0 on the weekend.

TCNJ's junior All-American Anthony Conte (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) was the runner-up at 125 pounds after falling to No. 2 seeded Mike Jones of Delaware Valley College, 6-2 in the finals.

TCNJ had a pair of third place finishers in Carmine Sarno (Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) and junior Adam Jankos (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial). Sarno took third at 133 pounds, while Jankos was third at 184 pounds. At 157 pounds, TCNJ's junior Matt Moscatello (Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley) took fifth place, while sophomore Kevin Langereis (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) took fifth place at 184 pounds for the Lions.
