Caccamise Takes Home First in 125 Pound Weight Class as Brockport Places Fourth at Mount Union

The SUNY Brockport wrestling team placed fourth out of ten teams and 11 wrestlers finished in the top eight in their weight class as the Golden Eagles compiled 106.5 team points at the Mount Union Invitational on Saturday.

Matt Caccamise, the No. 2 ranked 125 pounder in the country, went 4-0 on the day to earn a first place finish in his weight class. He totaled 22 team points for Brockport. He allowed just five points against him in four matches. He posted two decisions, a major decision, and a pin fall for the Golden Eagles. He began the day with a 9-0 win over Brewton-Parker's Zavyeon Mitchell before pinning Colin Mellot of Ohio Northern in the quarterfinals. He then rolled to 6-0 and 5-3 decisions in the semifinal and first place matches.

Senior heavyweight Richard Knapp went 3-1 on the day and earned a second-place finish in his weight class for Brockport. He posted two pins on the day, before losing a heartbreaker in overtime in the first-place match, 3-1, against Gannon's Freddie Nixon.

Zach Levey went 4-2 in his collegiate debut and placed fourth in the 133-pound weight class. Levey posted two pins on the day and eventually lost a 2-1 decision against Ashland's Gavin Weaver in the third-place match.

Michael Sullivan went 4-2 on the day and placed fifth in the 174-pound weight class for Brockport. Sullivan crawled out of the consolation bracket after losing his first match of the day. He won three straight matches, including two tech fall's, before losing in the consolation semifinals. Sullivan pulled out a 6-3 win over teammate Matthew Kline in the fifth-place match to close out the day.

Senior Chris Eames went 2-2 on the day and earned a fifth-place finish in the 184 pound weight class for Brockport. Eames received a first round bye and won his quarterfinal matchup against Nate Armstrong of Mount St. Joseph. He then lost two straight before defeating Gavin Layman of Ohio Northern, 6-0, in the fifth-place match.

Daryl Harris went 3-2 on the day and also earned a fifth-place finish in the 197 pound weight class. Harris won three of his final four matches of the afternoon, including a 7-3 decision of teammate Nick Franco in the fifth-place match.

Brockport returns to the mat on November 20th when the Golden Eagles head to SUNY Cortland to participate in the 52nd annual New York State Collegiate Championships. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
