ELMIRA, N.Y. ? The Elmira College women's wrestling program made its home debut on Tuesday in front of a packed Speidel Gymnasium. Despite dropping a 23-13 decision against Brewton-Parker, the Soaring Eagles gave those in attendance plenty to be excited about moving forward. "I am so proud of this team and how they battled tonight against an experienced Brewton-Parker program," mentioned Elmira head coach Cody Griswold. "I want to thank everyone for coming out tonight and showing their support for the team and to Brewton-Parker for making the trip from Georgia. The excitement tonight inside Speidel Gymnasium was amazing and I can't wait to see the support grow as our program grows in the years to come." JUST THE BASICS: SCORE: Elmira 13, Brewton-Parker 23 LOCATION: Elmira, N.Y. | Speidel Gymnasium TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (0-2), Brewton-Parker (1-0) HOW IT HAPPENED: Maylin Reyes '25 would give the Soaring Eagles their first individual victory at home as she pinned Brewton-Parker's Alesandra Burgos in the second period of a 123-pound bout. The victory would give Elmira an early 5-4 lead in the match. The Barons would extend their lead in the match to 17-5 following three consecutive victories at 130, 136, and 143 pounds. Leslie Monterrosa '24 would put an end to the Brewton-Park run in the match as she outlasted the Barons' Merianyeli Mercado at 155 pounds. Monterrosa notched an 8-7 decision and would earn three points to trim the deficit to 18-8. Elmira closed the match with a victory via forfeit at 191 pounds as Hazel Dahlquist '25 helped the Soaring Eagles to trim the score to 23-13. Both sides opened the match with double forfeits at 101 and 109 pounds, while Brewton-Parker recorded a win via forfeit at 130 pounds.
