#4 Bombers Wrap Up First Semester With 27-10 Win at Oswego

Oswego, N.Y. - The fourth-ranked wrestling team (7-0) remained unbeaten on the season with a 27-10 win at Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) opponent Oswego (1-1) Saturday.

The Bombers won the last four bouts ? earning bonus points in three of the victories ? after the Lakers had tied the match 10-10 after six weight classes.

Senior David Priest (Wyomissing Area/Douglassville, Pa.) put the Bombers up for good, winning a battle of nationally ranked competitors at 174 pounds. Priest, ranked fifth nationally, posted a 2-1 win over the nation's seventh-ranked wrestler to put Ithaca up 13-10.

Priest improved to 14-1 this winter (he's a team-best 7-0 in dual meets) and raised his career mark to 91-27.

Sophomore Josue Mendez (Brentwood/Brentwood) and freshman Shane Bartrum (Oswego/Oswego) followed with major decisions at 184 and 197 pounds, respectively, and junior heavyweight Matt Mahon (Brighton/Rochester) ? who's ranked fourth nationally ? closed out the match with an exclamation point, recording his 11th pin of the season.

Mendez raised his record to 8-3 with his third major decision of the season. He's 21-18 in his career. Bartrum evened his mark at 3-3 with his first major decision.

Mahon's pin was the 32nd of his career; he ranks fourth all-time at Ithaca. His season record is 12-2 (6-0 in dual matches) and his overall mark stands at 58-17.

Junior Seth Ecker (Pottsville/Pottsville, Pa.), ranked fifth nationally at 133 pounds, edged his opponent 2-1 to improve to 12-3 on the year and 58-15 as a Bomber.

Senior Blaine Woszczak (Wall/Manasquan, N.J.), ranked fifth at 149 pounds, recorded a 15-2 major decision to improve to 15-2 (5-0 in dual matches). He's won three times by major decision and his career record of 117-34. Woszczak ranks fourth on Ithaca's all-time victory list.

Freshman Dominick Giacalone (Cato-Meridian/Cato) started the match with a 4-3 win at 125 pounds. He's 8-6 this season.

The Bombers, who own Division III's best dual-match record, are idle until traveling to Northern Iowa for the National Duals Jan. 8-9.
