Brockport Places Third at NYS Tournament; Knapp Takes Home First in Heavyweight Division

The SUNY Brockport wrestling team placed third at the New York State Collegiate Tournament hosted by SUNY Cortland on Saturday. Brockport's Richard Knapp took home first place in the heavyweight division, while Chris Eames placed second in the 184 pound weight class. Austin Reed (149), Zach Levey (133), and Joe Benedict (197) each placed third to help lead the way for the Golden Eagles.

Richard Knapp earned the top spot on the heavyweight podium as he won all five of his matches for the Golden Eagles. ?Knapp topped RIT's Calik Kennedy 8-4 in the 1st place match to earn the 285 crown for the Golden Eagles.

Chris Eames placed second in the 184 pound weight class to earn 16.5 team points for Brockport. Eames won his first three matches of the day to earn a spot in the finals. Unfortunately he lost in the finals due to an injury default at 3:07 against RIT's Colby Giroux.

Zach Levey placed third in the 133-pound weight class going 4-2 on the day to score 18.5 team points for Brockport. He topped Anthony Romero of Oneonta in the third place match via Fall at 4:54 to earn the podium finish.

Austin Reed placed third in the 149 pound weight class as he earned four wins, advanced to the third place match due to a medical forfeit and eventually won by no contest over RIT's Mike Glynn in his final match. Reed totaled 16.5 points for Brockport on the day.

Joe Benedict placed third at 197 in his first tournament of the season. He won three of his first four matches to earn a spot in the third-place match against RIT's Josh Harkless. Benedict won a 3-2 decision against Harkless in his final match of the day to pick up 13 points for the Golden Eagles.

Max Yahre placed fifth in the 157 pound weight class and totaled 14 points for Brockport. He won three of his first five matches of the day and earned a no contest victory in the fifth place match for the Golden Eagles.

Brockport returns to the mat on December 3rd and 4th the Golden Eagles will participate in the New Standard Corporation Invitational hosted by York College of Pennsylvania. Also on December 4th, the Golden Eagles will send wrestlers to a dual at Niagara County Community College. Brockport's home opener will take placed on January 8th as the Golden Eagles host Niagara County Community College and New Jersey City University for a tri-match at 1 p.m.
