Patterson brothers instrumental in victory

VESTAL, N.Y. - Host Binghamton (13-14) defeated longtime SUNY rival Buffalo (9-11) 23-12 Sunday afternoon from West Gym. In front of a boisterous Alumni Day crowd, the Bearcats won five of the last six matches to earn the comeback win.

Junior 184-pound Josh Patterson, ranked No. 6 in the country by USA Today/Intermat, bumped up to 197 and produced a commanding 16-0 technical fall. Patterson finished his dual season with a 24-2 record and is 38-4 overall.

Wrestling the final dual of his standout four-year career, senior 157-pound Nate Patterson moved up a weight class and gutted out a 3-2 decision over Ron Majerus. It was Patterson's 47th career dual win, which ranks third in school history.

Sophomore Anwar Goeres provided six big points with a pin at 141. Goeres ended the match at 4:04 for his seventh pin of the season.

Sophomore 165-pound Ryan McGarity moved up to 184 and on the strength of a third-period takedown, earned a 5-1 decision. That win snapped a 12-12 team tie and sent BU on its way to the victory.

Binghamton will now prepare for the Colonial Athletic Association Championship, March 6-7 in Virginia Beach, Va.
