Seven UB Grapplers Post Victories in Win over the Bearcats

BUFFALO, NY -? The University at Buffalo wrestling team dominated Binghamton, 29-10, in their first home dual meet of the season. Seven Bulls won their respective matches, as Buffalo upped their dual meet record to 2-1.

Ryan Bentley (Ripley, NY/Ripley) at 141 pounds put the first points on the board for the Bulls. Bentley registered three takedowns, one escape, and one riding time point in his 8-3 decision over Binghamton's Joe Gartiser. Bentley, a junior, has a 3-0 dual meet mark this season.

Winning a hard fought match at 157 pounds was junior Gary Cooper (Adams, NY/South Jefferson). Cooper had one takedown and one escape in a 3-2 decision over Beau Bruno.

Sophomore Bill Prince (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg) picked up his first collegiate dual meet victory by decisioning Jerome Joe, 5-4. Prince used one takedown and three escapes to pick up the win at 174 pounds.

With seven takedowns, one reversal, and one riding time point, Garrett Bontempo (DuBois, PA/DuBois Area) earned a 17-7 major decision over Jeff McAveney. Bontempo, a sophomore at the 184-pound weight class, leads the Bulls with 15 takedowns in three dual meets.

At 125 pounds, Charlie Voorhees (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) major decisioned David Hockenberry, 11-3. The senior Voorhees - who had four takedowns, one reversal, and one riding time point - earned his 49th career overall victory.

Bill Jacoutot (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) won by injury default, giving the 149-pound senior his team-best 14th overall victory this season. Freshman Kyle Cerminara (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter) won by forfeit at 197 pounds.

Buffalo does not hit the mat again until January 5th when they go to the Buckeye Duals in Columbus, Ohio, to face Ohio State, Indiana, and Eastern Illinois. The Bulls' next home meet at Alumni Arena falls on Saturday January 12th, when Buffalo takes on Clarion.
