Ogunsanya, Brown Lead Army Through Battle at No. 1 Iowa
November 28, 2021

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Despite getting wins from team captains P.J. Ogunsanya and J.T. Brown, Army Wrestling was unable to pull off the upset during its match at No. 1 Iowa, falling 36-7 to the Hawkeyes on Sunday afternoon.

Though the reigning national champions emerged victorious, the Black Knights (0-3) made them work to do so, holding the Hawkeyes (2-0) to a scoring difference of three points or less in three separate bouts. Ryan Chauvin dropped an overtime result by a margin of two points, while both Markus Hartman and Brad Laughlin kept their opponents within three.

After Iowa began the competition with three-straight wins, Ogunsanya stopped the scoring by earning a major decision at 149 lbs. He defeated his opponent 11-3 to cut the Hawkeyes' early lead down to 14-4.

In response to Ogunsanya's triumph, the home team picked up key points by taking the matches at 157, 165, 174 and 184. Hartman highlighted the stretch by limiting No. 8 Kaleb Young to just four points.

Down 30-4, Brown then came up with a huge result for the Cadets by posting a 4-1 decision in the 197-pound bout. He led his opponent the whole time while securing another three points for the team's total score.

Following Brown's victory, Iowa closed things out quickly as No. 7 Tony Cassioppi pinned Brandon Phillips 3:53 minutes into the heavyweight clash.

Army will look forward to getting another chance at the Hawkeyes next year, as Iowa is set to make the trip to West Point during the 2022-23 season.
