Braswell named Most Outstanding Wrestler in title win, Cougars place second as Averett wrestling concludes New Standard Invitational

YORK, Pa. - Senior Sam Braswell claimed the title at the 125 mark at the New Standard Invitational hosted by York College. As a team, Averett finished in 2nd place which is the highest finish in program history at the New Standard Invitational which hosted a total of six Top 25 teams in the Country.

After securing one win in Day 1, Braswell won by major decision in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. He then won by decision, 7-5, to advance to the title bout. In the championship, Braswell dominated winning by decision 6-1. For his efforts, Braswell was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Averett had a total of seven placers in the entire tournament. Freshman Gabe Lavey battled all the way to the final match before taking a forfeit and finishing second for the Cougars. Seniors Brandon Woody and Joseph Jones also placed for the Cougars in third while juniors Trent Ragland and George Moseley placed fourth.

The Cougars return to action on Dec. 12 when they host the Cougar Duels starting 9 a.m.
