PRINCETON, N.J. -- Cornell's strength at the upper weights made certain the Big Red would continue its winning ways against Ivy League competition, avenging its only loss since 2001 with a 21-12 victory over No. 20 Princeton on Saturday afternoon at Jadwin Gymnasium. Cornell improved to 9-2 (4-0 Ivy) and set up a Sunday afternoon match against Penn (3-0 Ivy) for the Ivy title.

The Big Red improved to 96-1 in Ivy dual meets since the 2001-02 season, with the only blot its 19-13 defeat at the hands of the Tigers on Feb. 9, 2020 in the last meeting between the teams. After a season away due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Big Red had to wait nearly two years to set the Ivy order back in place.

The teams split the four matchups between ranked opponents, with a sudden victory takedown by Jacob Cardenas against No. 18 Luke Stout the swing match at 197. Jonathan Loew, ranked No. 15 at 184, knocked off No. 20 Travis Stefanik 5-2 in a rematch of the clinching 2020 contest won by the Tiger was also a highlight of the Big Red win.

In a high-scoring preview of what might be the EIWA or even NCAA final, Patrick Glory's third period takedown was the difference in an 11-9 win over Vito Arujau at 125. It was one of three matches decided by a takedown or less. Six were three-point decisions or less. Arujau's defeat was his first ever in a dual match for the Big Red (24-1).

One match that wasn't close was top-ranked Yianni Diakomihals' 16-0 first period tech fall. A quick takedown of Marshall Keller turned into three four-point turns and another for two to end it after two minutes of action. He has now won 63 consecutive matches in a Cornell singlet.

Other bonus points came from Lewis Fernandes at heavyweight, as the sophomore topped Princeton's Matt Cover 13-4. Both Dom LaJoie at 133 and Chris Foca at 174 earned wins for the Big Red as well.

The big Red returns to competition on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Penn before heading over to Drexel for a 5 p.m. dual.
