MOUNT PLEASANT, MI - The University at Buffalo wrestling team entered the day with their sights on a Mid-American Conference West Division title. Unfortunately, the Bulls dropped a 28-10 dual to 21st-ranked Central Michigan on Sunday afternoon.

After dropping the opening match, Derek Spann put the Bulls ahead, 4-3, with a 9-0 major decision over Vince Perez. It was Spann's 52 career dual win, tying Kevin Smith (2007-12) for the most in program history.

Central Michigan got a pin at 141 to retake the lead, but John Arceri got the Bulls right back in it with a win a 149. Arceri fell behind early, 3-0, but rallied with consecutive takedowns in the second period to tie the match, 4-4. He dominated the third to win the match, 8-7.

The Bulls battled, but dropped close decisions in their next three bouts, allowing the Chippewas to take control of the dual.

Pete Acciardi tried to rally Buffalo with a 4-2 decision over Ben Cushman at 184. Trailing, 1-0, Acciardi got a takedown late in the second period and was able to hold off Cushman for his seventh dual win of the season.

Central Michigan won the final two matches to win the dual and the MAC West Division title.

"We battled hard in some cases," head coach John Stutzman said. "Johnny won over a nationally ranked guy and big Pete came up big. I also want to congratulate Derek Spann for tying the school record."

The Bulls will wrestle their final dual of the season at Ohio on Saturday night.
