Three Brockport State Wrestlers Remain Unbeaten Following Day 1 of NCAA Mideast Regionals in Pennsylvania

Three Brockport wrestlers went unbeaten on day one of the NCAA Mideast Regionals hosted by Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon. All three Golden Eagles will begin day two in the semifinals of the winner's bracket and have guaranteed themselves a podium finish at regionals. Brockport has totaled 40 team points and currently sits in ninth place out of 20 in the team competition. Matt Caccamise (125), Zach Levey (133) and Chris Eames (184) all went 2-0, while Marquis Larmond (149) went 2-1. The top three finishers in each weight class earn an automatic qualification into the NCAA Division III Championships on March 11-12 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Day two of the regional tournament begins at 11 a.m. on Sunday morning.

125-pounder Matt Caccamise finished day one with a perfect 2-0 record following a major decision victory (16-6) in the first round and a 5-2 decision win over TCNJ's Ryan Rosenthal in the quarterfinal. Caccamise will take on Ursinus's Terry Adams in the semifinals to start the day on Sunday. Caccamise now has a 17-3 record on the season.

Chris Eames (184 pounds) also went 2-0 on day one and improved his record to 18-6 on the season. He won his first match by the score of 6-1 over Penn Tech's Garrett Storch and he added a thrilling 5-3 sudden victory over Ursinus's Gary Nagle in the quarterfinal night cap. Eames will square off against Ithaca's Chibueze Chukwuezi in Sunday's semifinals to begin the day.

Freshman Zach Levey went 2-0 on day one in his first regional appearance in the 133-pound weight class, pinning Oswego's Paul Wehr in 2:21 and earning a decision victory over Oneonta's Anthony Romero (3-1) in the quarterfinals. Levey will square off against Ithaca's Luis Hernandez in the semifinals on Sunday morning.

Marquis Larmond went 2-1 on day one in the 149-pound weight class for the Golden Eagles. He defeated Pitt-Bradford's Elijah Hernandez 11-4 in the opener, lost to TCNJ's Michael Conklin in the quarterfinals and then defeated Elizabethtown's Shane Strausser via major decision in the consolation round #2. Larmond will continue his quest for a top three finish on Sunday morning in the consolation bracket against Brandon Bowles of Muhlenberg.
