RIT's Sutliff Takes 157 Title

ROCHESTER, NY -- Ithaca College came away with first place at the 39th annual RIT Wrestling Invitational on Saturday. The Bombers won the event for the second straight season with an overall score of 140.0. John Carroll University was second with a score of 134.0, while Cortland State placed third with a score of 106.0. Zak Kallai of Case Western Reserve was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler. He came in as the weight's top seed and defeated Ryan Holder from the University of New Hampshire 10-1 in the finals.

RIT placed ninth overall with a score of 51.00 points. Freshman Chad Sutliff won the 157 pound bracket. He defeated two All-Americans in the semifinals and finals. In the semis he defeated second-seeded K.C. Beach from Ithaca, 8-2. He then faced top-seeded Brent Rider from Cortland State. Rider placed fifth at the 2002 NCAA Championships. Sutliff defeated Rider in the finals with pinfall at 6:36.
