Elmira Women Take Down East Stroudsburg In Home-Opening Upset, 25-22

ELMIRA, N.Y. - In what was just the fourth-ever meeting between the Soaring Eagles and the Warriors, the Elmira College women's wrestling program secured a victory between a pair of nationally ranked squads on Wednesday night inside Speidel Gymnasium. Mariyah Casados '26 clinched the match for the Purple & Gold with a victory wrestling at 191 pounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Opening the dual at 101 pounds, Elmira's Skylynn Tomlinson '26 energized a packed Speidel Gymnasium with a pin at the 4:56 mark to defeat ESU's Haley Delia and give the Soaring Eagles a 5-0 advantage. Elmira would increase its lead to 10-0 following a forfeit by the Warriors at 109 pounds as Ariyanna Orosco '26 would be declared the winner.

The 116-pound bout featured the top-ranked wrestler from Region I in ESU's Emily Klein and Elmira's Abby Duke '26 (ranked 4th). Duke rallied in the bout after falling behind early against Klein and would eventually secure a victory via a 6-4 decision that pushed the Purple & Gold's lead to 13-1. ESU trimmed the deficit in the match to 13-11 following a pair of forfeits from Elmira at 123 pounds and 130 pounds.

Elmira would get back on track in the match as Gabby Bradigan '26 stepped into the circle at 136 pounds. Bradigan, who entered the bout ranked 6th at 130 pounds in Region I would hand ESU's Avery Meyers (4th at 136) a loss with a pin at the 2:56 mark to increase the lead to 18-11.

Skylah Chakouian '25 would battle ESU's Avia Bibeau at 155 pounds as Chakouian entered the bout as the top-ranked wrestler in Region I, while Bibeau ranked 2nd at 143 pounds. Chakouian jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the bout and would increase her advantage to 10-0 following a spin and a takedown. The bout would end in a 10-0 tech fall victory for Chakouian following an injury to Bibeau.

The Warriors responded with a victory at 170 pounds as a pin by ESU's Zoe Gress over Elmira's Hazel Dahlquist '25 just 58 seconds into the bout would trim the Soaring Eagles' lead to 22-21.

In the night's final bout, ESU's Shola Cascen would match up against Casados. The early momentum would swing the way of Casados, who eventually would build a 4-1 advantage. She would stay on the attack with time winding down in the second period and eventually built a 12-4 lead before the clock expired. The 12-4 victory via decision for Casados secured a 25-22 win in the match for the Soaring Eagles.
