BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo wrestling team opens the 2022-23 season on Saturday in a tri-dual at the Battle in the River City in Jacksonsville, FL. The Bulls will take on Wisconsin, Chattanooga and Campbell at Swisher Gymnasium on the campus of Jacksonville University.

The Bulls will travel a young squad to Florida, looking to build on one of the most successful seasons in program history. The Bulls went 12-6 overall and 7-2 in MAC duals last year. However, unlike last year's veteran squad, Buffalo's lineup this season is filled with youth, many of whom will be seeing the first dual action of their careers.

At 125, Tristan Daugherty returns after going 14-13 overall and 6-10 in MAC duals a season ago. Patrick Adams will also see time at 125 after redshirting as a freshman a season ago.

At 133, the Bulls will need to replace an all-time great in Derek Spann. UB will turn to a pair of redshirt-freshmen Cole Minnick and Mason Bush. Neither has seen any dual action in their careers.

At 141, Redshirt-sophomore Jack Marlow gets the call. The East Northport, NY native did appear in one dual last season against North Dakota State.

At 149, UB will turn to Kaleb Burgess or Nick Stampulous. Neither Burgess, a redshirt-freshman, nor Stampulous, a true freshman, have seen any dual action in their careers.

At 157, the Bulls are returning a two-time national qualifier in Michael Petite. He ended last season on a strong note, finishing third at the MAC Championships and earning an at-large bid the National Tournament.

At 165, the Bulls return a pair of experienced wrestlers. Both Ty Raines and Noah Grover have had success in recent years. Raines went 6-9 overall and 4-4 in duals at 157 last season. Grover went 19-13 overall and 8-9 in duals a season ago. He had two pins in the MAC Championships but suffered an injury forcing him to settle for sixth place.

At 174, Jay Nivison is looking to build on his breakout 2021-22 season. The Michigan native went 16-7 overall and 7-3 in duals last season. He took true second at the MAC Championships to qualify for the NCAAs. Redshirt-junior Marcus Petite could also see time at 174.

At 184 ? Giuseppe Hoose for his third season as a starter. Last season, he went 9-11 overall and 3-5 in duals.

At 197, Redshirt-junior Sam Mitchell finished last season strong, winning four of his five final MAC duals of the season en route to a 14-16 overall record. Redshirt-freshman Eli Sherren could also see the first dual action of his career this season.

At 285, Greg Hodulick will likely get the call. Originally a transfer from Nassau Community College, he will be seeing the first dual action of his career.

The Bulls will open the action on Saturday against 10th-ranked Wisconsin at noon. That will be followed up with duals against Chattanooga at 2 pm and Campbell at 4 pm.
