Elmira Men's Wrestling Drops Inaugural Home Dual Decision Against ESU

ELMIRA, N.Y. - Three years in the making, the Elmira College men's wrestling program hosted its first-ever dual matchup as the Soaring Eagles battled East Stroudsburg University on Wednesday night inside Speidel Gymnasium. Darius Green '24 highlighted the night for the Purple & Gold as he recorded a pin to conclude the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
East Stroudsburg opened the match with back-to-back victories via forfeit at 125 pounds and 133 pounds to take a 12-0 advantage against the Soaring Eagles. Wrestling at 141 pounds for Elmira, Blake O'Brien '24 gained early momentum in his bout against ESU's Jack Dardia. The Warriors would eventually add to their lead in the match as Dardia notched a victory via a 9-2 decision to make it 15-0.

Following no-contests for the Soaring Eagles at 149, 157, and 165 pounds, Hollis Berry '25 would take the mat for Elmira at 174 pounds. Berry would go the distance in his bout against the Warriors' Robert Burke, who eventually notched a victory via a 9-0 major decision.

A pair of newcomers would make their debuts for the Purple & Gold as Bryan Stafford '26 took the mat at 184 pounds, while Caleb Tuttle '26 wrestled at 197 pounds for EC. Stafford tallied eight points in his matchup before dropping a 20-8 score via a major decision. ESU's Matthew Richardson bested Tuttle at 197 pounds via an 18-0 tech fall.

Green would end the dual on a high note for the Soaring Eagles as he controlled the tempo from the opening whistle. Green jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the bout against ESU's Ajay Hiller before eventually stretching his advantage to 5-2 on the scoreboard. The turning point of the bout would come just 42 seconds into the second period as Green pinned Hiller in a time of 3:42 to secure the victory and six points for EC.
