Bulls Split at WrangleMania

BETHLEHEM, PA - The University at Buffalo wrestling team split its two duals at WrangleMania on Saturday in Bethlehem, PA, defeating LIU, 28-6, after falling to #20 Oklahoma, 28-9.
The Bulls cruised over LIU, winning eight of the ten matches.

Tristan Daugherty earned a 13-3 major decision over Robert Sagaris to kick things off. Mason Bush followed with a 6-3 decision over Kaelan Francois for his first career dual win.

Kaleb Burgess won UB's third straight match with a 6-3 decision over Drew Witham at 149. At 157, Nick Stampoulus won his first career dual in dramatic fashion, earning a late takedown to win, 6-5.

Chase Kranitz also earned his first career win with a first-period pin of Aaron Munford to extend the UB lead to 19-3.

Giuseppe Hoose had two wins on the day, capped off by a 10-4 decision over Gavin Claro. The Bulls closed out the victory with a 7-2 decision by Sam Mitchell at 197 and an OT win by Greg Hodulick at 285. With the match tied, 1-1, Hodulick earned the takedown in overtime for the 3-1 sudden victory.

Buffalo started the day with a tough test against Oklahoma. The Bulls battled and lost some close matches, including one-point losses by Daugherty and Noah Grover.

Hoose got the Bulls on the board with a 5-3 decision over Greyden Penner.

The highlight of the day came courtesy of Eli Sherren. The redshirt-freshman stunned #21 Keegan Moore with a first-period pin, only 42 seconds into the bout, the first pin of his career.

"We wrestled well today," head coach John Stutzman said. "We battled Oklahoma really tough, losing a few tough matches. We competed hard against LIU and came away with a tough hard-fought win. I loved seeing a bunch of guys get their first career wins."

The Bulls are back in action on Friday at the ArmBar at the Armory.
