Alfred State Pioneers Crowned Champions in Electric City Duals

The Alfred State Wrestling team continued their season with a dual meet in Scranton, PA at the Electric City Duals. The Pioneers finished in first place, going a perfect 5-0 on the day and winning the team champion title.

Their first team victory was against New Jersey City 28-13, The Pioneers first team match was the toughest of the day, Sean Peterson (Islip, NY / Islip) had a victory by pinfall in the 141 lb bout, but the Pioneers found themselves down 13-12 after the 165 lb bout. A major decision victory by 174 Sean Malenfant (Averill Park, NY / Averill Park) gave the Pioneers the lead again, and they didn't look back, with two more decision wins coming from Blake Ilges (Canisteo, NY / Canisteo Greenwood) and Evan Albrecht (Patchogue, NY / Patchogue-Medford).

Their second victory was against Keystone, by a score of 47-9. Another pinfall victory for Sean Peterson gave the Pioneers a 18-0 victory after two forfeits from Keystone. Ben Lloyd (Alfred, NY / Alfred-Almond) followed Peterson with a pinfall victory of his own. Travis Kauffman (Attica, NY / Attica) also had a pinfall victory in the 157 bout.

Their third win was against Oneonta, they won 28-10. Anthony Miraglia (Byron, NY ? Byron-Bergen) won by pinfall in the 149 lb bout, giving the Pioneers a 13-4 lead. Sean Malenfant picked up another pinfall victory, further extending the lead 25-7 with two matches to go. Alfred State split the final two matches.

Their fourth win was against host Scranton, the Pioneers won 35-15. Eli Moshenek (Ringgold, VA / Dan River) had a pinfall victory in the 133 match, giving the Pioneers a 9-0 lead. Peterson and Miraglia followed with major decision victories, and Malenfant had another pinfall win. Blake Ilges also tallied another victory by pinfall onto his day.

Their final team victory was against Rowan, with the largest margin of the day at 50-5. George Racz (Westtown, NY / Minisik Valley) and Blake Ilges both won by pinfall as the Pioneers found themselves winning 44-5. Keaton Renfrew (Phoenix, NY / John Birdlebough) ended the Alfred State day with a pinfall victory of his own, sealing the perfect 5-0 day for the Pioneers.

The wrestling team secured the team champion title in the Electric City Duals for the first time in program history, they bring back the trophy ahead of the ECWC Championships next week on November 19.
