Week 1 - Monroe County Wrestling

The wrestling season kicked off on Wednesday night with a dual of highly ranked Fairport hosting their neighbor Penfield. Fairport got it done with a convincing 54-15 victory. Fairport won 10 of 13 bouts and recorded bonus points in 8 of those victories. Match up of the night was McGee (Penfield) vs. LeChase (Fairport). McGee came out on top with an 8-4 decision.

Gates Chili hosted league opponent Brighton. Brighton was able to win 9 of the 13 bouts to win 46-15. Max Morrison led the Brighton charge with a win by fall at 172 lbs.

Spencerport defeated Canandaigua 57-12. Jackson Burns registered a big win by fall at 215 lbs to lead Spencerport.

Fairport picked up another big dual win defeating Fulton by the score of 48-30

Tournaments:

The Churchville Chili Saints wrestling team traveled to Buffalo for the 50th Annual Joe Shifflet Dual Meet Tournament. Recorded wins over Kenmore-Tonawanda, CSAT of Buffalo, North Tonawanda, Wilson, Grand Island, Roy-Hart/Barker and Sweet Home. Finishing 7-0 were Logan Morse, Andrew Jeffers, Cael Raines and Coy Raines.

Fairport competed in the Bill Anderson Memorial Tournament on Saturday (Dec 3rd) and finished in 3rd place. Fairport wrestlers placing are as follows: 1st place Brady Ungar 172lbs. Brady went 4-0 with 4 first period pins beating #4th ranked NYS D2 Dominick Weaver from Windsor with a fall at 1:20 in the 1st period. 2nd place Philly Provenzano 126lbs. 2nd place Jeffery Craddock 285lbs. 3rd Place Trey LeChase 118lbs. 5th Place Teague Wolcott 110lbs. 5th Place Chase Sackett 132lbs.

Webster Thomas, Hilton, and Pittsford represented Monroe County at the Pal-Mac Duals. Hilton was a perfect 5-0 on the day and was crowned the tournament champions. Pittsford recorded 3 wins, defeating North Rose, Lancaster, and Thomas. Webster Thomas recorded 2 wins defeating Pal-Mac and North Rose.

HFL, Brockport, Gates Chili and host Webster Schroeder competed at the Matthew Marino Tournament. Gates finished in 10th position, Schroeder in 7th, while Brockport took 3rd and HFL was 2nd. Taking home championships at their weight classes were: Jackson Harrison (WS) at 102 lbs., Chris Noto (HFL) at 110 lbs., Richard Wood (BRK) at 118 lbs., Waylan Winseman (HFL) at 132 lbs., Jazz Spaulding (HFL) at 138 lbs., and Joe Caudle (BRK) at 160 lbs. Also making the finals and finishing 2nd were 5 additional HFL wrestlers: John Winseman, Jacob McVige, Andrew Spaulding, Nick Noto, and Owen Englert. Gates Chili's TJ Phelan also took home 2nd place honors at heavyweight.

Eastridge, Irondequoit, Victor, and Brighton competed in the Byron Bergen Invitational on Saturday. Brighton took home 2nd place honors and Victor finished in 4th. Champions were crowned by Drew Aparo (VIC) at 110 lbs., Yousef Allen (BRI) at 118 lbs., and Daniel Barraclough-Tan (BRI) at 160 lbs. Also making the finals and placing 2nd were Angleo Attardi (VIC) at 118 lbs., Sam Gray (BRI) at 132 lbs., and Sam Ricci (VIC) at 189 lbs.

Attica/Batavia competed at the 10 team Southtown Duals in Section VI. Attica/Batavia finished with a 7-1 dual record to take the runner-up position.

Greece competed in the Wellsville Invitational and crowned 3 individual champions; Devon Weber at 110 lbs., Reid Johnson at 172 lbs., and Connor Coughlin at 285 lbs. Finishing in the runner-up spot at 145 lbs for Greece was Justin Walker. As a team Greece finished in 3rd place.

Rush Henrietta traveled to Newark Valley and competed in the Larry Goodrich Invitational. RH finished in 2nd as a team and crowned champions in Jovanni Trinchini at 126 lbs., Makhare Rogers at 132 lbs., and Jackson Koppers at 145 lbs. Finishing in 2nd for the Royal Comets were Vitali Pushnin at 102 lbs. and Xander Burress at 126 lbs.

BIG DUAL in Week #2

The week will start with a big match-up of the #5 and #2 State Ranked D1 Teams!!!. Starpoint (#2 NYS) travels to Fairport (#5 NYS) to take on the Red Raiders, Tuesday December 6th at 7:00 p.m. On paper this one should be closely contested and has the making of an exciting dual meet. Regardless of your school, if you have the night free - lets pack that gym and root on our Monroe County reps!
