December 27, 2022

The Windsor wrestling program is hosting the 65th Annual Windsor Christmas Wrestling Tournament, the oldest wrestling tournament in the state. The tournament will take place on Wednesday, December 28th and Thursday, December 29th at Windsor Central High School.

There will be two sessions, with the time and admission as follows: Session 1 (Wednesday, all day beginning at 10am) is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Session 2 (Thursday morning beginning at 9am) is $5 for adults and $3 for students. The championship matches of the tournament will begin at approximately 3pm on Thursday.

This year's tournament will feature 39 teams from three states, including: Amsterdam, Attica Batavia, BGAH, Blue Ridge, Burnt Hills, CBA/JD, Chenango Forks, Chenango Valley, Copenhagen, Corning, Deposit-Hancock, Dryden, Fairport, Gouvernuer, Homer, Honeye Falls-Lima, Horseheads, Indian River, Lansing, Manhasset, Marathon, Newfane, Norwich, Oxford/Greene, Poquoson (VA), Saratoga Springs, Spencer Van Etten/Candor, Starpoint, Susquehanna Valley, Tioga, Towanda (PA), Union Endicott, Walton/Delhi, Waverly, Wellsville, and Windsor.

The tournament is also welcoming back spectators after being unable to allow them during last year's tournament due to health and safety protocols.

"This year we are happy to welcome back spectators and hoping to welcome back the same quality of competition we had last year. Nine State Champions wrestled in 2021's Christmas Tournament and over 45 New York State Place Winners. Tioga finished as the team Champions as they did in every tournament they entered last year and will look to defend their title," said Windsor wrestling coach Jeff Nolan.

Seven individual tournament champions return, including Chenango Forks' Tyler Ferrara, who will look to become seventh four-time winner at the Windsor Christmas Tournament.

"The Christmas Tournament has long held the tradition of attracting the toughest competition. Many athletes go on to place and win at the highest levels of the sport thus making the event 'The Tournament of Champions,'" said Nolan.

The tournament will stream live on the Windsor Central School District YouTube channel: Windsor Central School District - YouTube
