BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo wrestling team improved to 3-0 in Mid-American Conference action with a 22-13 win over Kent State on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Arena. It was a close dual early before the Bulls won five of the last six matches of the day to secure the victory.

After dropping the first match of the day, Tommy Maddox got the Bulls going with a 7-5 decision over Jacob Houpt at 133. Jack Marlow followed with a 7-6 decision over Pable Castro IV. Marlow was able to ride out Castro for the entire third period and the riding time point proved to be the difference.

Michael Petite, who had missed the previous two duals with an injury, was back in the lineup and earned an 8-5 decision over Keegan Knapp. Noah Grover was up next and cruised to a 15-3 major decision over Dillon Carlson.

Jay Nivison earned a tough 7-5 sudden victory over Michael Ferree at 174. Trailing for much of the match, Nivison earned two takedowns in the third period to force OT. In overtime, Nivison was able to secure a takedown with just two seconds left to earn the sudden victory.

At 184, Giuseppe Hoose earned his 12th dual win of the season with a 14-8 decision over Tyler Bates.

Eli Sheeren was bumped up to heavyweight for the day and responded by earning a 6-2 decision over Jacob Cover. Sheeren got a takedown and four-point nearfall in the first period to set the tone.

"Great team win today," head coach John Stutzman said. "That was our 16th different lineup this year and it was great getting a win at home."

The Bulls are back in action on Saturday at Northern Illinois.
