Week 8 - Monroe County Wrestling

Dual Meets:

Wednesday, January 18th provided a lot of action for the Monroe County Teams. Brighton notched another win by defeating Penfield 35-24. Max Morrison of Brighton picked up a technical fall at 172 pounds to help lead Brighton. Victor was on the road to West Genesee for a non-league match. Victor claimed a 42-29 victory and was led by a big win at 138 lbs when Eli Ricci scored a crucial decision 11-5. Fairport took on Pal-Mac and came away with a 43-21 win, James Kester of Fairport picked up a fall at 152 lbs to help lead Fairport. Webster Thomas clipped Canandaigua 39-34, Conner Guffey scored a fall at 102 lbs to lead the way. Thomas also picked up their second victory of the week on Thursday as they downed Penfield 45-18. Attica/Batavia also was in action on Thursday as they defeated LeRoy in a non-league match-up 55-15.


Section V D1 Dual Championship:

The Top 6 Teams of Hilton, Fairport, Attica/Batavia, Brockport, Churchville, and Pittsford qualified for the Section V Dual Meet Championships in Division 1. The quarter finals were extremely exciting. Attica/Batavia and Pittsford made things very interesting when they concluded in a 31-31 tie. The tiebreaker of most matches won decided the victor as Atticia/Batavia won 7 matches to 6 adjusting the final score to 32-31. One of the biggest wins for A/B was delivered by Preston Bannister as he came away with an 8-7 victory. Brockport played host to Churchville Chili in the other quarter final dual. Brockport came out on top with a 36-33 win. The match was locked at 33-33 going into the final bout and literally came down to a takedown in the closing seconds as Dylan Lessar delivered for Brockport.

The Final 4 took place on Saturday. Attica/Batavia would square off against Hilton in the semi finals. This one was all Hilton as they set an early pace and came away with the 51-18 victory. In the other semi Fairport pinned Brockport with a 49-10 victory. It was clear that Hilton and Fairport were ready to tie-up in the finals.

The finals kicked off at 118 pounds and Trey LeChase of Fairport would set an early tone with a first period fall giving Fairport an early 6-0 lead. Tyler Simons of Hilton would answer with a major decision at 126 lbs to narrow the gap 6-4. Fairport would pick up the next two bouts both by fall and launched themselves to an 18-4 lead. Hilton's Max Meagher would follow up a major decision from teammate Philip Testa with a pin and Hilton cut the lead back once again. Going into the 160 class the score was now 18-14 in favor of Fairport. Brady Unger moved the Red Raiders forward once again when he secured a fall, which was answered by a decision at 172 lbs when Hilton's Landon Lazarek picked up a win. The score now was 24-17 Fairport. Hilton's duo of Nate Kasper and Elijah Diakomihalis would provide back to back pins and Hilton took their first lead in the dual 29-24. A technical fall at 102 lbs provided by Jon Testa of Hilton supplied enough to the scoreboard to give Hilton the victory as the dual closed out at 34-30.

Hilton wins the Section V D1 Dual Meet Championship and automatically qualifies for this weekend's NYS Dual Meet Championships. Due to the outstanding season and lineup of Fairport they advanced to the state duals as an at-large bid.

Fairport will open up with CNS of Section III while Hilton battles East Islip out of Section XI. Best of luck to both programs and congratulations on this achievement!!!!!
